County Attorney

The County Attorney is an elected official and serves a term of four years. The County Attorney is the top law official in the county.

The County Attorney has a duty to prosecute or defend, on behalf of the state and county, all suits applications, or motions, civil or criminal, arising under the laws of the state in which the state or the county is a party or interested. Neb. Rev. Stat. 23-1201(2). The County Attorney has a duty to give opinions and advice to the board of county commissioners and other civil officers of the county, when requested to do so by such board or officers, upon all matters in which the state or county is interested, or relating to the duty of the board or officers in which the state or county may have an interest. Neb. Rev. Stat. 23-1203

The County Attorney shall perform all the duties enjoined by law upon the county coroner and the county attorney shall be the ex officio county coroner. Neb. Rev. Stat. 23-1210.
